September 14 Emily Oaks QRP Night
Coming up is our annual Campfire & QRP night - Tuesday September 14, 7:30pm at the Emily Oaks Nature Center in Skokie. Emily Oaks is at Brummel and Kenton - just north of Howard St., 2 blocks east of Skokie Blvd.
Bring your QRP rig, an antenna, and some insect repellent, just in case campfire smoke isn’t enough to keep bugs at bay. Beverages and s’mores will be provided. Don’t worry if you don’t have a QRP rig -there are usually several stations set up. As the days grow shorter, it’s almost dark by 7:30, so recommend you get there early if you’re setting up an antenna. 40, 30, or 20 meters are the bands of choice. A map of the site is here.![]()
This will be the fifth year of competition for the coveted “Emily”award - for the QSO that covers the greatest distance per watt. Don KK9H was the 2006 & 2008 winner, Bill KA9WKA was the 2007 winner, and Warren KC9IL won in 2009. The Challenge is renewed for 2010 - can you work a W6 with one watt? Or a W4 with 100mw? Or a DX station?
Thanks once again to Howard Miller N9RUI, for arranging this popular Club event.
Hope to see you there - bring a friend!
